Despite the fact that the product has only been released for a short time, owners of Nvidia RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 graphics cards are complaining about a series of problems, including frequent crashes, but the most annoying is the constant black screen. It seems that these problems have reached a serious level, with more and more reports being recorded online, from social media to user forums.
These issues occur in a variety of situations and are difficult to predict. For example, some users report experiencing black screens only when changing resolution or refresh rates, while others report experiencing issues when using the card at high intensity or when setting up multiple monitors. There is also some inconsistency in how the issue occurs: for some users, the black screen persists even after rebooting, while others may still experience intermittent use of the card.
Curiously, the issues don't seem to be limited to the new RTX 50-series cards, as there have been sporadic reports of similar issues with some RTX 40-series GPUs as well. This suggests that Nvidia's latest driver, 572.16, may be to blame.
Nvidia has acknowledged the reported issues (PC Gamer reports) and is currently investigating the issue. The company's response suggests that it is aware of the issue and working on a fix. However, RTX 50-series owners may want to exercise caution or consider using alternative driver versions until an official fix is released.
On the other hand, both new products, especially the RTX 5090 model, are in serious shortage, with some major retailers in Europe confirming that restocking can take up to 16 weeks for the RTX 5090 and 6 weeks for the RTX 5080.
Another piece of news worth noting involves some reports of cards being “bricked,” but these claims don’t appear to have been verified. With any new hardware product, a certain amount of failure is inevitable, but the scale of the current problems is large enough to cause concern in the Nvidia graphics card community.
