Summary

- Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen has surpassed One Piece to become the best-selling manga with over 7,610,995 copies sold in Japan.

Jujutsu Kaisen Emerges is the best-selling manga of 2024
Another year has passed quickly, but 2024 was a great year for manga enthusiasts. This year, Shonen heavyweights like Jujutsu Kaisen and One Piece dominated. They were in a tight race, but Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen won out in the end. The main reason why JJK was the best-selling manga of 2024 was because Gege finished his big work earlier this year.
While the finale of Jujutsu Kaisen may have been a bit underwhelming for most fans, it didn't hinder manga sales throughout the year. Thanks to Sukuna's carnage and Yuji's "metal" vibe, Gege Akutami's JJK topped the 2024 Oricon manga sales chart with over 7,610,995 copies sold.
On the other hand, Eiichiro Oda's One Piece came in second with 5,250,210 copies, despite the manga being on hiatus several times. Here's the full list of manga that made it into the top 10 best-selling manga (according to Oricon) in 2024:
Jujutsu Kaisen — 7,610,995 copies
One Piece — 5,250,210 copies
Frieren Beyond Journey's End — 4,988,170 copies
The Apothecary Diaries — 4,723,562 copies
Blue Lock — 3,881,269 copies
Kaiju No.8 — 3,398,326 copies
Kingdom — 3,234,204 copies
Haikyu!! — 3,077,085 copies
My Hero Academia — 2,943,985 copies
Spy x Family — 2,662,408 copies
Anime adaptations of manga have boosted sales of the original work
Some of the new anime that came out this year, such as Frieren Beyond Journey's End, The Apothecary Diaries, and Kaiju No.8, have left a deep impression on fans. Thanks to the successful anime adaptations, the sales of these manga have automatically increased. You can see that they have risen to the top of the Oricon manga sales rankings.
Last year's "winner" Blue Lock has dropped to fifth place in sales and may drop next year due to the "unpopular" animation in Blue Lock Season 2. However, the Neo Egoist League arc in the manga is extremely good and may save the manga from falling sales. Furthermore, the release of Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle has also boosted manga sales. Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia also concludes Deku's story, so the manga has maintained its ranking this year.
Finally, Kingdom and Spy x Family continue to maintain their dominance in the top 10 manga rankings by switching places from last year.
Next year's bestseller list will be even more interesting as all the new generation manga like Dandadan, Frieren, and The Apothecary Diaries, among others, will be competing for the top spot alongside One Piece. So, what's the best manga you've read in 2024?
