On January 14, 2023, the League of Legends developers released a short video in which they apologized to fans for the controversial cinematic of the 2023 season. In the video, they mentioned a brand new mode called 2v2v2v2 that is expected to be released in the summer of Season 13.
League of Legends hasn’t had any new game modes other than URF and Nexus Blitz in the past few years. This is definitely big news that will please many players. A brand new game mode would be a breath of fresh air for all gamers, especially since the competition in MOBA titles is quite fierce at the moment.

This year’s new League of Legends mode will require a time limit that matches the player’s request. Although information about this mode is still vague, many League of Legends players will guess that it is called 2v2v2v2.
Along with having to mention the 2023 season footage, Nexus Blitz was also discussed by Riot developers, and they said that there is “no release date” for the mode, along with the possibility that it will never return.
How will the 2v2v2v2 LoL mode be played?

Four teams of two compete against each other in matches on a map as shown in the image. Teams will compete against each other in a deathmatch format. Players are expected to level up and purchase equipment between multiple rounds in a match.
Currently, this game mode is a prototype that is still in development. The developers will likely provide more information about it around March this year, with a possible trailer along with details about the mode to follow.
If everything goes according to Riot Games' plans, the game mode should officially launch sometime in the middle of this year. In any case, it's an addition that sounds pretty exciting on paper and would offer a whole new League of Legends experience, with some players in the community already excited about it.

Usually new game modes or content like this will be tied to a new skin line along with a story that ties into the main storyline. It's possible that this 2v2v2v2 game mode will be done so before launch.
Events like Space Exploration based on the Space Squadron and Dark Star skin lines are great examples of events that fans have been asking for. Not only are there new game modes, but Riot Games also has cinematics based on these modes and skin lines.
