With the new pilot program, YouTube Premium Lite is now priced at $7.99/month. News of the service package first leaked in February 2025.
Subscribers will be able to watch most videos on YouTube ad-free. YouTube says ads may appear on music content, YouTube Shorts, and when users search or browse.
The Lite option costs nearly 50% less than the $13.99/month Premium plan. But those subscribers can enjoy music and videos without any ads. They can also download videos for offline viewing and play videos in the background.
Premium Lite will likely attract more subscribers who are interested in an ad-free experience but don't care about the other features of the more expensive plan.
A great choice for YouTube fans
Many people always want to get rid of the annoying constant ads on YouTube, but never want to pay for the Premium package, especially if they already stream music and videos from Spotify and Apple Music.
But the new Premium Lite plan is especially interesting for anyone who enjoys the huge amount of video available on the service without having to waste time listening to ads and hitting the skip button.
It’s currently unclear whether Premium Lite subscribers will be able to access experimental features that YouTube subscribers can enjoy, like improved audio and faster playback speeds, though it’s likely that most people will be happy to give up those features for the significantly lower subscription price.
