Meditation is a state that helps reduce anxiety. But the way the brain works during meditation has always made people wonder how does brain meditation work?
When brain meditation works like?
A new study in Norway will help you answer this question.
There are many methods of meditation: mindfulness, mantras, and meditation. However, according to TS. Svend Davanger, a neuroscientist at the University of Oslo (Norway), all techniques used when meditating can be divided into one of two groups: meditation and concentration meditation with Nondirective.
The scientists said, is like a meditation technique focuses on breath or a certain thoughts and repelling other thoughts.
Nondirective meditation has been described as a method of concentrating on breathing or a sound while meditating. The mind is relaxed and can wander everywhere. Some modern meditation techniques tend to fall into this category, the team said.
Evaluate 14 participants with extensive experience with Nondirective meditation techniques
In the new study published in the Journal of Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, the researchers evaluated 14 participants who had a lot of experience in Acem meditation - a technique of Nondirective meditation.
All participants will receive a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan while they are resting and when they practice the Nondirective meditation technique and the concentration technique.
The results showed that, when engaged in the practice of Nondirective meditation, the brain was more active on emotional thoughts than when they were resting. But when subjects practiced concentration meditation, their brain activity was almost the same as when they were resting.
Meditation not only helps relieve stress, but also improves memory, stress, and quality of sleep in cancer patients, a series of studies have shown in the past.
