Usually when connected to the Internet, we often have the psychology and desire that every click, every time our Enter will be done immediately, as quickly as possible. However, this is not a wish, it depends on many different factors and conditions.
However, there are many ways we can speed up the Internet connection for our computer, such as using software, changing a few settings, including the DNS configuration.
What is DNS and how to change the computer DNS
What is DNS?
DNS or Domain Name System is a basic technology for today's web browsers. Can be understood simply, when we enter the name of a web address into the URL (download.com.vn), this address will be converted to a numerical IP range for servers and Internet routers Can read, understand what you require.
"DNS response" is also the reason that many people do not understand, wondering "Why do I use the millions of packages without accessing the network, on slow?". The reason is simple, if in the process of using the computer (you are needing to visit any website) to have a problem such as contacting the faulty DNS server, the DNS server takes too long to receive. Your access request form, meaning you'll have to wait for the address resolution system. At this time, no matter how fast or strong your connection is, it won't work.
Therefore, how to reduce the response time of the DNS server? Or simply increasing speed when accessing the web is a question many people are interested in.
To know if the DNS connecting to the site is having problems or not, you can use the following methods:
Step 1 : First, press Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.
Step 2 : Enter the command " cmd " into Open and Enter .
Step 3 : A command window (black) will appear as below, you want to check the DNS connection of a page, enter the correct address of that page with the syntax:
Ping (page name) and then Enter .
For example:
Want to check Download.com.vn, you type " ping download.com.vn " and then Enter. If there is no problem, the window will return the above result.
How to speed up Internet with OpenDNS
This is the simplest and most used way to speed up the computer's web browser. Specifically, this method will use DNS under the service of OpenDNS, not the ISP as usual. We will use two address ranges (primary and secondary):
- 208.67.222.222 (Main server).
- 208.67,220,220 (Secondary server).
How to set up DNS for Windows 7 and above operating system
Step 1: From the main interface of the computer, left-click on the Start icon / select Control Panel.
Step 2 : In the next interface, find and click on Netw ork and Sharing Center (can also left-click the network icon in the lower right corner of the screen and select Open Network and Sharing Center ).
Step 3 : Left-click the Change Adapter settings item in the left option range.
Step 4 : Which Internet connection you are using, right click on it and select Properties .
Right-click on the Internet connection you are using and select Properties
Step 5 : Local Area Connection Properties window appears, select the Networking tab , tick Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4) / Properties .
Select the General / Use the following DNS server addresses tab and fill in the two fields below in order:
- Preferred DNS server : 208.67.222.22
- Alternate DNS server : 208.67.220.220
Complete OK to close.
Enter the new DNS address and then OK to confirm
Do the same with Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP / IPv6) / Properties .
Go to Gerneral / Use the following DNS server addresses , fill in the order:
- Preferred DNS server : 2620: 0: ccc :: 2
- Alternate DNS server : 2620: 0: ccd :: 2
After filling out, click on OK to close.
Change DNS on computers using Windows XP operating system:
For computers using Windows XP , the method is not much different. We do the same:
- On the Start / Control Panel / Network and Internet Connections / Network Connections .
- In the window of Network Connections, right-click the network connection in use and select Properties .
- Select Internet Protocol (TCP / IP) / Properties .
In the new window, select Use the following DNS server addresses and enter the DNS range as follows:
- Preferred DNS server : 208.67.222.222
- Alternative DNS server : 208.67.220.220
Then OK and Close to close the options window.
Adjust the DNS of a computer using Windows Vista
If you are using this operating system, do the following:
- Control Panel / Network and Internet / Network and Sharing Center .
- Click on View Status .
- When the window shown below appears, select Properties .
- Then do the same steps as with Windows XP.
Do the same as above to change computer DNS
Change computer DNS to Google DNS to speed up the Internet
DNS Google has a higher speed so it will help us reduce the time to access the web, how to do the following:
Step 1: From the main screen, left-click on the network icon in the lower right corner of the screen and select Open Network and Sharing Center .
Step 2 : Do the same as when changing to OpenDNS, except the last step, is that we will enter DNS as follows:
- Preferred DNS server : 8.8.8.8.
- Alternative DNS server : 8.8.4.4.
Adjust the DNS cache (DNS cache) of Windows
To speed up DNS resolution, Windows stores the DNS information in the DNS cache section of the computer. However, here also need to understand a little more about the mechanism of operation of DNS. When we want to access a website at any time, Windows will look in the DNS Cache first.
Now there are two cases:
- Access successful : Creating authentication points.
- Access failed : Forming point that could not be authenticated.
Both of these points will be stored in DNS every time they occur, so if the "point" ratio is higher, it will be easier for DNS to find. This can sometimes cause problems, even though the website you have previously visited has been corrupted (denial point), but has now been fixed and can be accessed normally, but because the DNS Cache stores a lot of points. more authentic (save time only about 5 minutes), so when found, DNS will tell you "Inaccessible" even though it is not.
To resolve this issue, the following should be done:
Step 1: Open the Run dialog box, enter the command " Regedit " and then OK.
Step 2 : Search by path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CurrentControlSet / Services / Dnscache / Paramete .
Click on the Edit / DWORD (32-bit) Value tab to create a new value.
Step 3 : Name the new value " NegativeCacheTime ". Then double-click on this value and change it to 0.
After doing the above, you need to close all open windows, then restart the computer to perform the setup and check the results after changing DNS on the computer.
I wish you successful implementation!
