How to use threads on Discord

Streaming conversations on Discord will help you communicate more effectively with your teammates. Here's how to use Thread - New feature on Discord .

How to use threads on Discord

Discord is a popular messaging application in the world's gaming community. However, conversations on this platform need to be more streamlined. Responding to user requests, Discord has finally launched a message threading feature, allowing you to nest a separate exchange below a message.

Anyone who has used Discord before knows how messy chats can be. You can start a slightly off-topic story in the bug report channel. That caused the administrator to step in to get the discussion back on track.

Thread - Threading/Threading is the perfect solution to this problem. Basically, it allows you to chat more freely about your favorite topics. Instead of distracting the entire channel with an annoying discussion, you can create a thread to continue the conversation in a separate board.

How to use threads on Discord

Discord will automatically hide an inactive thread for 24 hours. However, servers upgraded to level two have the option to extend the automatic storage period to one week.

How to start a thread on Discord

If you see a message that sparks an off-topic discussion, you can create a thread by hovering over the message and pressing the button #.

Additionally, you can also create a thread on Discord that is not derived from an existing message. Just press the button +in the chat bar, then click Create Thread .

When you start a thread, it appears on the right side of the screen, allowing you to see the threaded conversation next to the channel you're currently participating in.

You can also view a list of streamed messages in the channel list. Clicking a thread from the list will open a full-screen chat window.

Discord also notes that mods will receive some control over the thread, allowing them to tweak settings to their liking. Mods can decide whether members can create private or public threads and assign permissions to certain people to manage them.

Overall, the thread will improve the chat experience on Discord. You can enable early threading on Discord by enabling Community on the server. If not, you have to wait until August 17, 2021 when it is released across the server.
