What is phone ROM?

Does the phone have ROM like a computer? And if you are an Android user,  you must have heard the concept of up ROM to make your device run smoother and have more features. So what is the ROM here?

What is phone ROM?

First, ROM (Red Only Memory) is read-only memory, ROM data is not lost when the power is turned off, as a general convention, ROM is understood as the internal storage memory of the phone, however Since the introduction of smartphones, we have another interpretation.

On the phone , the ROM can be understood as the secret partition to store the operating system, the user cannot write to the ROM, but the system can overwrite the ROM when updating.

There are times when there is a separate ROM on a phone, but sometimes it cuts a part of the RAM as a ROM, for example if 2GB RAM is actually 1.7GB left because a part has been cut to ROM. That is also the reason why the phone specifications will not have ROM information.

ROM can also be understood as a version of the operating system for devices running Android . The ROM includes the entire operating system as well as other customizations. ROM will be uploaded by tool on Laptop or through the recovery process of each machine.

As we all know, Android and an open source phone operating system . Once Google completes each version of Android , it will make the official source code available to the public. Other developers and providers will use this source code, customize and add certain components to it. Such software and operating systems are called ROMs.

The operating system that comes with the machine sold officially is called the original ROM, or stock ROM, while the cooked, customized ROM is called ROM cook.

The ROM is used to store system files, and the operating system doesn't have many options. This ROM exists as memory chips. Some devices are equipped with multiple memory chips. A memory chip is small, has a high speed and is used to store file system, cache, application data. The remaining memory chip is larger but slower, about 1-2GB to save the application. This is a way for manufacturers to reduce the cost of products while ensuring the speed and smoothness of the machine, because high-speed memory chips are often very expensive.

However, the speed of the device also depends on many other factors such as the operating system, application compatibility, which is why the iPhone 4S only uses one memory chip, with the average speed, to store user data, system data and apps while ensuring device smoothness.

Android users often have a preference for up ROM for the device. Up ROM is changing the current operating system of an Android device to a similar operating system version. Up ROM can make your phone run faster and has more new features, but if you encounter an incomplete ROM, the device may hang, work unstable. Then, you have to re-upload another ROM more stable. So need to find out carefully before uploading any ROM.

However, uploading ROM can bring some risks. But if you have chosen Android to use then it is really regrettable if you do not dabble in the ROMs.
