One of the main features of Google Photos is support for uploading and backing up unlimited photos & videos in compressed format. This has made Google Photos the most popular free photo storage service. However, recently, Google announced that it will stop providing this feature from June 1, 2021.
Starting June 1, 2021, all files uploaded to Google Photos will be charged the default 15GB storage capacity for each new Google account. If you are signed up for Google One, photo storage fees will be charged to this service.
Previously, only photos uploaded in "Original" quality, uncompressed, would be charged, while photos uploaded in "High" quality were free. Since June 1, all types of photos will be "treated" the same.
However, photos uploaded before June 1, 2021 will not be charged. This change only applies to images uploaded after this date. So, if you haven't used up your free 15GB, you can continue uploading photos. When your limit expires, choose one of the Google One service plans.
Google will delete your content if you have not activated the Photos service or have exceeded the storage limit for more than 2 years.
However, if you're using a Pixel phone, you'll be happy to know that you can continue to use Google Photos for free, with unlimited photo and video backups for the specified period of time.
Google will provide you with a tool in June 2021 that allows you to manage backed up photos and videos and choose what you want to save or delete. In addition, it also supports automatically marking content such as dark, blurry photos or large videos...
This change applies to all Google Photos users on all platforms, including Android, iOS and desktop.
