Tesla Model 3 Price Cuts in Australia: What Buyers Should Check
Tesla Model 3 Price Cuts in Australia: What Buyers Should Check
Updated October 25, 2026: Tesla Australia’s configurator lists the new Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive at A$45,900 before on-road costs, while the Premium Rear-Wheel Drive is listed at A$54,900. Tesla is also advertising a separate A$1,000 Model 3 RWD bonus for orders delivered by December 31, 2026. The lower entry price is tied to a distinct trim, so buyers should compare the equipment, final drive-away quote, delivery terms, and any offer conditions before deciding.

What the Model 3 price change means
The headline Tesla Model 3 price cut lowers the advertised starting point, but it does not mean every version has received the same discount. Tesla’s current Australian order page lists the RWD at A$45,900 and the Premium RWD at A$54,900. That A$9,000 gap compares two separately named trims; it is not a like-for-like reduction on the Premium. Check the live Tesla Model 3 configurator on the day you order because prices, paint options, delivery estimates, and promotions can change.

Which extra features matter enough to justify the price difference
Both figures are before on-road costs and optional extras. Ask for a written, itemized drive-away price using your state or territory and registration details. The total can include stamp duty, registration, compulsory third-party insurance, delivery, and paid options. A discounted advertised price can look different after these items are added.
Check the exact car and offer
Compare equipment, not just the badge
Open the order summary for the exact version and confirm the seat trim, comfort features, wheels, included charging equipment, and any software or driver-assistance package. A lower-priced trim can omit or change equipment that is standard elsewhere. If you are comparing a new order with an inventory car, make sure both quotes describe the same model year, configuration, and included accessories.
Tesla’s Australian site currently advertises a A$1,000 bonus for Model 3 RWD purchases that meet its order and delivery deadline of December 31, 2026. Treat this as a separate, conditional offer rather than a permanent reduction in the list price. Read the current Tesla Australia offer and terms, then ask Tesla to show the bonus in your written order total. Confirm whether it can be combined with other benefits and what happens if delivery slips past the deadline.
Budget for the way you will charge
Tesla currently lists up to 572 kilometers of WLTP range for the RWD configuration. WLTP is a standardized comparison figure, not a promise of the distance you will cover on every charge. Tesla says real-world range varies with vehicle configuration, battery condition, driving style, speed, weather, and climate. Read its range guidance and compare the version’s rated range with your daily commute and regular longer trips.
Work out where the car will charge before treating an EV as cheaper to run. If you can charge at home, include the charger price, an electrician’s installation quote, and your electricity tariff. If you will rely on public charging, check the stations along the routes you use and the prices that apply. Tesla’s home-charging guide outlines its equipment options, but installation costs depend on the property and electrical setup.
Look beyond the headline price
Compare finance by total cost
Do not compare offers by weekly repayment alone. Check the interest rate, comparison rate, loan term, establishment and broker fees, and any balloon or residual payment. A longer term or final lump sum can make the regular payment look smaller while increasing the amount paid overall. ASIC’s Moneysmart car-loan guide recommends comparing rates and fees and budgeting for registration, insurance, and running costs.
Check tax treatment if you use a novated lease
Private buyers do not receive a fringe-benefits-tax (FBT) exemption simply because they purchase an EV. If you are considering an employer-provided car or novated lease, ask the employer or lease provider to calculate your specific arrangement and explain which vehicle value and dates determine eligibility.
The Australian Government has announced a phased change to the EV FBT discount: the existing full discount continues through March 31, 2027; from April 1, 2027, eligible EVs priced at A$75,000 or less keep the full exemption until April 1, 2029, while eligible vehicles above that amount and below the luxury-car-tax threshold receive a 25% discount on payable FBT. From April 1, 2029, the government says the 25% discount will apply to all eligible EVs below that threshold. Check the current Treasury announcement and ATO eligibility guidance before relying on an assumed tax saving.
Read the delivery, warranty, and cancellation terms
Ask when the specific vehicle is expected to arrive, whether the order is for an allocated car or a future build, and what happens if the delivery date changes. Before paying, check the deposit and cancellation terms in writing. Do not assume you will receive a refund simply because you change your mind or the price later falls; consumer protections and cooling-off rules depend on the situation and location.
Tesla says new Model 3 vehicles delivered from January 1, 2026 receive a five-year, unlimited-kilometer basic warranty under normal use. Its battery and drive-unit coverage varies by trim: the RWD and Premium RWD listings show eight years or 160,000 kilometers, whichever comes first, with at least 70% battery-capacity retention. Confirm the exact coverage in the warranty supplied with your vehicle using Tesla’s Australian warranty page. These manufacturer terms add to consumer guarantees; the ACCC car-buying guidance explains the protections that apply when buying from a licensed dealer.
A practical way to decide
Request two written quotes if you are considering both RWD trims: the exact car, options, on-road charges, delivery estimate, deposit conditions, financing total, and any current bonus. Then compare the added equipment and your likely charging costs against the A$9,000 listed-price difference. If the RWD’s features fit your needs, the lower entry price may be meaningful; if you would add options or value Premium equipment, the final gap may be smaller than the headline suggests. Recheck Tesla’s configurator and the offer terms immediately before placing an order.
