You can now chat with the official ChatGPT on WhatsApp without the need for a third-party chatbot. Users do not need to register or connect their OpenAI account, but simply add the ChatGPT phone number or scan the ChatGPT QR code to add ChatGPT to their WhatsApp chat list. WhatsApp is becoming a great place to use ChatGPT
WhatsApp has become wildly popular thanks to its great features and focus on security. But if you need another reason to use this free messaging app, consider its improved integration with ChatGPT.
Users can now chat with ChatGPT using voice messages and upload images.
The first integration came in December 2024, when OpenAI announced that WhatsApp users could text 1-800-242-8478 (or 1-800-CHATGPT) to use the AI chatbot.
Now, OpenAI has expanded the features available for ChatGPT on WhatsApp. You can now upload images to ChatGPT for analysis or add information to a conversation. Users can also now chat with ChatGPT using voice messages, which can be more useful than typing messages in some cases.
Soon, you'll also be able to link your free ChatGPT account or paid subscription to unlock more uses of the AI assistant. Currently, there are limits on ChatGPT messaging via WhatsApp. Anyone in the US can call the same number to voice chat with ChatGPT, but you're limited to 15 minutes of chat per month.
WhatsApp is great for quick chat with ChatGPT
While ChatGPT’s integration with WhatsApp isn’t perfect, it does provide a great way to use chatbots without having to download another app to your phone or switch between apps. And it looks like OpenAI wants to continue improving its integration with the widely used app.
While there are a number of free AI chatbots to choose from, ChatGPT continues to lead the way in terms of speed and convenience. Allowing more users to leverage ChatGPT in WhatApp will certainly make it more popular in the race for AI dominance.
OpenAI is also rapidly adding advanced features to ChatGPT. In January 2025, ChatGPT added an Operator agent that can perform tasks on the web without the user's help. Although this feature is currently limited to the most expensive subscription plan.
How to use ChatGPT on WhatsApp
Step 1:
On the WhatsApp interface, click on the plus icon in the top right corner. Then click New Contact to add ChatGPT contacts to WhatsApp.
Step 2:
We enter the number 1-800-2428478 to add a contact or you click Add by QR code to scan the ChatGPT account QR code according to the image below.
We proceed to scan the ChatGPT account QR code to add the contact to WhatsApp.
Step 3:
Then WhatsApp has connected to the ChatGPT account, you click Continue chatting . Immediately we are connected to ChatGPT on WhatsApp to chat with this AI chatbot as usual.
Now you proceed to send questions to ChatGPT as usual and wait for the chatbot to respond to you.
Currently ChatGPT on WhatsApp only supports normal messaging, not multimedia files.
