Those little rubber bands look simple, but the process of making them is more complicated than you might think. Here's the complete process of making rubber bands .
Rubber bands, a familiar item that we use every day to tie and package goods. Its presence is considered obvious by everyone, but most people do not know how rubber bands are produced.
Try to think and make inferences before watching the video about the rubber band production process below. Surely you will be "shocked" by its complexity and ingenuity.
After being softened by heat and kneaded into a pile like kneading flour, the rubber will be put into a rolling machine to form thin rubber slices. Workers will cut and bundle the rubber into bundles and roll it together with sulfur and some chemicals to make the rubber stronger and more flexible.
The rubber is then rolled very thin and bitten into small bundles to fit into the molding machine. Each roll of rubber is dyed and shaped into very long, hollow rubber tubes. After being cooled in water, the rubber tubes are inserted into aluminum molds with a radius of a normal rubber band and then steamed at high temperature.
After steaming, the rubber is “washed and dried” and then fed into a cutting machine to create elastic bands of uniform cross-section. In 1 hour, the machine can cut half a million elastic bands.
Who invented rubber bands?
Rubber bands (also known as elastic bands) are simple but popular products all over the world thanks to their convenience and low price. This item is used in all areas from daily life to industry such as packaging goods, tying papers, stationery or tying hair...
Rubber bands were first invented in 1845 by British inventor Stephen Perry. But it wasn’t until 1923 that American inventor William Spencer realized the potential of rubber bands after purchasing some tire tubes and cutting them into small loops. William Spencer then developed and improved rubber bands into the useful products we still use today.
The small rubber bands we use every day are often made from natural rubber, which is elastic, durable, and cheaper than synthetic rubber.
Nowadays, depending on the needs or purposes of different industries, people have produced elastic bands with different sizes, thicknesses and colors.
Ways to use rubber bands you may not know
Fix the glasses on the face
Try taking two rubber bands and wrapping one around each temple in the perfect spot where you want your glasses to stay. Once the rubber band touches the inside of the loop, your glasses will not move.
Save on paint or staining
After opening the paint can, take a rubber band and wrap it from the bottom up and hang the rubber band right in the middle. Now, dip your brush into the can and when you pull the brush out, scrape off the excess liquid from the rubber band. You will then have enough paint to cover the area you are starting to paint.
Open a stuck glass bottle cap
Wrap a rubber band around the metal lid and you'll have enough grip to open the jar. Placing the rubber band over the lid will prevent your palm from slipping, giving you enough force to open the jar.
