Why must teach children to wait?

Reality shows that many mothers tend to easily fulfill all the needs of their children. This usually starts from a young age, for example, seeing the baby crying, the mother will find ways to comfort the baby such as giving candy, taking it out, showing the phone, buying toys, ... Gradually, the bigger the baby. the more you understand that just need to "play the way", crying, will immediately satisfy all requirements without waiting.

How is to wait?

Waiting here can be understood as simply waiting until mealtime, patiently waiting in line, taking the elevator, waiting for the bill, waiting for your turn to swing, if you like something, you must wait. Until the occasion or meeting a promise with parents, ... These things seem simple but difficult to forge for the baby if the parents do not pay attention to the guidance. 

How to teach children to wait?

To teach children to wait the most important factor is parents. Parents who are exemplary , trying to be an example, trying to change can help their baby become able to wait. To do this, parents need to follow the following 3 principles:

Teach children to understand time

In order for your children to wait, the first thing parents need to do is let them understand the time, let them know the difference of 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 50 minutes, ... Parents can apply. by including landmarks in conversations with your baby. Example: "In 30 minutes I'll come home from work and take the whole family out", "fried chicken will be delivered in 10 minutes", ..

Teach your child games that they can play alone 

Parents should not mistakenly think that playing alone means that they are shy and passive. Teach your children to play alone very well, they will always know how to find joy anywhere, anytime. 

However, playing alone is not "glued to your phone or tablet" because these devices are not good for developing your child's imagination. Parents should guide their children to play puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, read books, ... these things not only help their children to be smarter but also form the ability to wait. 

Teach your children to wait for big events

Any child is always excited about holidays such as birthdays, Christmas, international children, ... because I know that my parents will let them go out, get gifts. However, since I was young, I did not know when there would be a ceremony, when it was time to go out, so I kept asking and demanding. 

Parents can take these occasions to train their children to wait by buying their own calendars for them to mark holidays or anniversaries where they have come together. Every time you reach those milestones, parents remember to give their children a small reward such as toys, taking them to eat, giving cards, ... Gradually, you will understand that you want to get similar things. must wait. 

What parents need to remind themselves of in teaching their children to wait

You can't wait if your parents are always in a hurry, right? Children are like a blank sheet of paper, the things parents do, though unintentionally but will unintentionally fall under the child's observation, making them think that it is a reasonable, correct and unconscious act. In everyday life, to teach children how to wait for their parents should pay attention to the following 3 things:

Always be patient as an example

Do not appear impatient, irritable, hasty when waiting for a long time at elevators, supermarkets, shopping malls, ... Always wait in a happy mood and guide your baby to wait their turn with me.

Do not compromise

Absolutely not meet the requirements of the baby if the baby shows not knowing how to wait. Example: Parents promise to go out in 30 minutes, but if the baby constantly nags, demands, cries, or even eats to go earlier, parents should punish the baby by not letting the baby go that day.

Keep credibility

Similar to no compromise, if the baby does the right commitments, knows how to wait, the parents absolutely must not lose credibility with the baby. Losing credibility will make your child understand that waiting is not meaningful.
