Let popular accounts tell you what people like. If you have specific content goals in mind, start paying attention to what people are doing in your most popular videos. This will give you a great idea of what your target audience likes so you can quickly tweak your videos to stay on trend.
These accounts also give you a glimpse into the most popular hashtags in your target niche and the best ways to present your content so it can really shine.
In addition to popular accounts in your target niche, look at popular videos in general to get an idea of what types of videos are trending. You may be able to adapt some of these trends to your niche.
Find templates on the For You page
Focus on trends that are relevant to your brand or image. Spend some time on TikTok and you’ll have a For You (FYP) page based on your most viewed and engaged videos. This page also allows you to easily see what’s trending in your niche so you can quickly pick up on trends.
The For You page can also give you a good idea of what types of videos are trending and their lengths so you can post accordingly.
Check your For You page at different times of the day to see when and how these trends and patterns change.
Use hot sounds and music
Add popular sounds to increase visibility for your videos. For most TikTok users (about 88%!), sounds are a big part of their TikTok experience. Sounds and music act like hashtags—something that makes the platform unique. Users who love a sound often watch video after video that features it.
Davis agrees that it's really helpful to "do some research and find out what song/sound is trending. Play that sound in the background of your video, even if the sound is off. This makes it easier for people to find your video."
For example, if you want to create a baby-focused TikTok account, Cormack recommends finding “some of the trending sounds that are associated with baby content. You might find some inspiration from them… and apply them specifically to your clips.”
Add relevant viral hashtags
Hashtags help potential followers find your videos. Use at least three hashtags per post. Make sure the hashtags are relevant to the content of your video. While the right hashtags won’t necessarily get you more followers, they can help make your videos more discoverable.
Hashtags help people find videos they like—you can also think of them as "notebook labels" that help you organize your content.
For example, if you're marketing a product, add #TikTokMadeMeBuyIt so your product shows up alongside all the trending products on the platform.
Cormack agrees that using trending hashtags on TikTok is “a tactic that can help other people discover your videos,” but cautions that “it’s not the most important tactic. I think using trending sounds is a better way to get more followers than using hashtags.”
Join popular challenges on TikTok
Challenges are a big part of the TikTok experience. They’re a great way to get views quickly, as they often get a lot of traction from the TikTok community.
